This version of Quote INIT was created in August of 1988. I’ve used it since then, now (Aug 91) with System 6.0.5 under MultiFinder. It is stable and unobtrusive. I haven’t tried it with System 7, but its aim is so modest and its code so small that it may work well.
Copy it to your System Folder, and when you next start your Mac it will put “curly quotes”, single and double, in all the right places as you type, in all applications.
Mathematics and telecommunications may demand "straight quotes". To toggle the effect on and off when Quote INIT is active, type <Shift>-<Command>-<'>. (That last character is the apostrophe key.) When you type that combination, Mac beeps once and the alternate set of quote/apostrophes is immediately available.
